Endless Summer
Santa Cruz Flats - Rob Clarkson Report #8
Another tough day. I was one of the higher pilots in the gaggle over the
resort. I maxed out at 7000' 20 min before the first start. I was over Scott
and we were both coming down so I headed off for the edge of the start circle
8km away. The 5030 has a shaded arrow showing the next turn point under a dark
black arrow showing the current turn point. Until the first start time then it
switches over to the first turn point. I thought the first turn point was
straight north so I headed off on my own in the wrong direction. I got stuck
low at the edge of the start and stayed there until I got up to 5000'. I then
headed off in the right direction but that was my last climb and I landed. The
task today was a dog leg 64km to the NE. A few just landed here a few made
goal and every one else was scattered along the course. Scott finished fifth
for the day and should hold his spot just ahead of Davis. He had a great week
flying with some of the best pilots in the world. I got lots of air time this
week which was my priority when I came here. This place lived up to my very
high expectations. Tomorrow is a travel day and then I start the western
Canadians which started today. Hopefully lots more flying this week.
