Endless Summer
Rob Clarkson - Flytec Report April 17
Finally we get a task in. 110 km down wind dog leg. The lift is light and
broken. The start circle was less thermaling and more collision avoidance. It
was a blue day with the top of the lift was about 3700' in the start circle.
I ended up by my self and it was tough to stay up. I made 12km and a lot
of people landed very short. In retrospec I should have taken the height I had
and went as far as I could. Instead I thermaled myself into the ground. I've
talk to several people who got about as far as I did so I could have improved
my standing by just going on glide. I'm not really that concerned where I
finish in the standings. For me it's more about learning. I picked a long
narrow feild to land in. There were orange orchards on both sides of the
field. The tree's were very short and I could have gotten a lot lower before I
turned onto final. I came in very fast and the tree's shaded the wind in the
feild and I was crusin accross the ground. I nomally drag my feet along the
ground when I come in. Bad idea. It felt like I was kicking little tree
stumps. I put in a strong flair and had a great landing. The air and flair
timing feel very different here but I think I have it figured out. I don't
know how good it will be tomorrow but I'm sure we will have a task. Haven't
heard back from the rest of the team yet.
